WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) -Tuesday, Wichita Falls City Council members approved emergency funds for a replacement of the freight elevator at the Memorial Auditorium with no hesitation.
The funding granted total up to more than a $100,000. Officials say the work has already begun by removing the old one and finding a company that was able to do the job.
Blake Jurecek, Director of Information Technology and Facilities says this was something already budgeted for they’re just using the money sooner.
“The project was an emergency in a sense that we had some fluid that it was leaking that we wanted to make sure was not contaminated the ground, and also we wanted to move forward so that we would delay any of our fall performances with the elevated being out of service,” said Jurecek.
The fall is usually the busiest time with local performances, so they wanted to move ahead with this now; otherwise, it would have to wait until October. City officials hope to have the elevator up and running within the next for four to six months.
