Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day

WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - Today is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, a time dedicated to shedding light on the importance of caring for every child’s mental health.

This year’s theme is “Suicide Prevention: Strategies That Work."

With the newest research showing more of our children are attempting suicide, experts say it’s especially important to remove the stigma surrounding mental health and talk to kids about their emotions early and often.

“You wanna be involved. Be really in touch with your child, and some of the positivity that you can bring into their life. Be involved with teachers and other professional adults as well they have in their life touch base with them.”
Lisa Dresbach, Program Director, Teen Emergency Shelter

Warning signs parents can look out for include changes in behavior, personality or sleep patterns.

Today, everyone is encouraged to use #HeroesOfHope when participating in the national event discussion on social media.
