WF police identify standoff suspect

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - The Wichita Falls Police Department has identified the suspect who was taking swings at cars with a blunt object and then barricaded himself in the upstairs room of a building.

Just after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, WF police received a call saying there was a man in the East part of town, near Ft. Worth Street, who was hitting cars with a pipe.

The report said when officers arrived on scene, they learned the suspect, Joel Norton, had barricaded himself in an upstairs room of a nearby building.

Norton continued hitting things and tossing different items out of windows, including his pants, while officers tried to contact him.

WFPD called in a SWAT team but officers on scene were able to convince Norton to exit the house on his own. He was only wearing a towel when he was arrested.

Norton was charged with two counts of criminal mischief and one count of criminal trespassing. His total bond is listed at $2,250.

The suspect is currently in the Wichita County Jail.
