News Channel 6 City Guide - Inaugural Hometown Pride Expo a Success

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - The News Channel 6 City Guide is a segment that shines a spotlight on local businesses, events, and nonprofits across Texoma. In this episode, we’re taking a look back at the News Channel 6 Hometown Pride Expo. It was a weekend full of fun and safe family-friendly fun that involved lots of shopping with a variety of local businesses.

“The feedback from the vendors was very good,” Richard Haddox, general manager of News Channel 6 said. “They really enjoyed the layout. They thought the organization was good, that it was well put together. Many of them went ahead and just signed up for next year, on the spot.”

The exhibit hall inside the MPEC was transformed into a socially distanced shopping experience with everything from boutiques, to holiday decor, some pampering, and more. Temperature checks were done at the door and sanitizing stations were set up throughout the exhibit hall.

“Well, I really liked it. It wasn’t super crowded. There were a lot of good vendors. A lot of the same ones we see at Christmas Magic, so, that was good,” Alicia Cure, a shopper at the expo said. “What I enjoyed most about this was still having some kind of vendor fair here in town [so that] we could get a little Christmas shopping done. Since pretty much everything has been shut down since we’ve all been on lockdown for the past seven months.”

While the crowds weren’t huge, the people who attended came to shop, which was good news for vendors. Organizers were happy with the overall outcome of the first-ever Hometown Pride Expo. It’s an event they enjoyed putting together for this community.

“[The Hometown Pride Expo] was actually pushed several months. Our original plan was for August. For us to bring [the expo] even though it wasn’t a Christmas Magic, it wasn’t a Hangar Holiday, it was something. It was something for the vendors to say, ‘Okay, there are organizations out there that care about their business.’ And [we’re] trying to do what we can to stimulate the economy as much as we can,” Haddox said.
