VERNON, Texas (TNN) - The Boys & Girls Club of Vernon supports two robotics teams with the newer team getting ready for their first competitions.
The team’s name is Omni Future Robotics First Tech Challenge.
“We got halfway through our season, halfway through the start of our season then we realized that we couldn’t build the robot that we were hoping to build because we were missing so many parts,” said Naomi Brummett, member of Omni Future Robotics FTC.
The other robotics team is First Lego League. Omni Future Robotics is made up of students from 7th-12th grade. Some of the team members were members in First Lego League before aging out of the program.
Members in Omni Future Robotics learn more than just robotics.
“Also to gain a better understanding for what it takes to be involved in the professional world,” said Arrin Brummett, mentor of Omni Future Robotics FTC.
The team needs help getting parts for the robot their building so the team planned a lunch fundraiser, which was on Saturday. This was their first fundraiser and doubled to raise awareness about First Tech Challenge Robotic teams.
Once their robot is competition ready, their team can begin competing and qualifying for the worlds competition.
“Starting this month is when the area qualifiers come in so that you can work your way up. Regional qualifiers, area qualifiers to get up to worlds,” said Arrin.
Competitions are remote this year because of the pandemic.
Omni Future Robotics hoped to raise $1000 for robotics parts from the fundraiser and exceeded their goal.
