WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - The Texas Department of Transportation has hired a contractor to start repairing concrete failures on I-44 near Maurine Street in Wichita Falls.

The repairs began Tuesday at the problem areas on the inside lanes from Elevated Freeway North to Maurine Street. They’re expected to take 7-10 days to complete.

The inside two lanes of Northbound I-44 will be closed around the clock for the duration of the repairs. The contactor is planning to complete the project in two phases: one section on the south side of the limits and the other section closer to Maurine Street.

TxDOT is reminding drivers to stay vigilant while this project is being completed. Traffic will be forced into a single lane and commute times will be impacted due to traffic backups.

Law enforcement will be on the scene to help move traffic through the construction. Residents should avoid the area if possible.

TxDOT says concrete failures happened when the concrete pavement buckles. The contractor will saw out the portions of bad pavement, make base repairs and pour new concrete to complete the project.
