WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - The Texas Department of Transportation has hired a contractor to start repairing concrete failures on I-44 near Maurine Street in Wichita Falls.

Phase one of repairs began Tuesday at the problem areas on the inside lanes from Elevated Freeway North to Maurine Street. This phase has since been completed. The contractor has removed all traffic control and all lanes are now open.

TxDOT says their contractor will start phase two of the repairs on Jan. 18 and the inside two lanes of Northbound I-44 will be closed around the clock for the duration of the repairs.

Concrete failures happen when the concrete pavement buckles. The contractor will saw out the portions of bad pavement, make base repairs and pour new concrete to complete the project.

TxDOT is reminding drivers to stay vigilant while this project is being completed. Residents should avoid the area if possible.
