Former MSU basketball coach dies in car crash

WISE COUNTY, Texas (TNN) - The third-winningest coach in Midwestern State Men’s basketball history has died after an early Friday morning crash.

DPS officials say Nelson Haggerty died at 2:30 a.m. in a single car rollover crash on Highway 380 near Decatur.

Haggerty spent eight years as the head coach of the Mustangs, racking up 155 wins and five Lone Star Conference Championships before resigning in March of 2019.

He was most recently on the men’s basketball staff at the University of North Texas.

Haggerty was 47 years old.
