Amber Alert canceled after missing 13-year-old Texas girl found; suspect arrested
HOUSTON (Gray News/KWTX) - An Amber Alert that was issued by police in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday night for a missing 13-year-old girl believed to be in danger was canceled Thursday after the FBI announced she was found.
“Leilana has been found,” the FBI tweeted. “She has been taken to an area hospital to be evaluated. Additional information will be released later. Thank you for your help in this search.”
Leilana Graham, 13, was believed to be with 22-year-old Sha Kendrick Smith when police issued the alert Tuesday.
Shortly after saying Leilana was found, the FBI announced Smith was arrested and charged with sex trafficking of minors.
“Sha Kendrick Edward Smith has been arrested by the FBI and is charged in federal court with sex trafficking of minors,” the agency tweeted. “We appreciate everyone’s help with circulating the Amber Alert. Thank you!”
The FBI had earlier said that Leilana was last seen in the 10500 block of Rockaway Drive in Houston on Sept. 20 before she went missing.
Law enforcement officials said at the time that they believed Leilana to be in grave or immediate danger.
