WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Archer County jurors found a man guilty of murder on Monday.

Charles Ray Hunter has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of John Lewis Helms.

The second suspect, Saconn Renea Ayala, is being tried separately. The third suspect in the case, Lee Alfredo Villapando, bonded out of jail at a lower bond due to health concerns and reportedly died on Sept. 22, 2021.

Helms’ body was found on Half House Road in Archer County on April 19 around 9 p.m. After an extensive investigation, it was revealed that Helms suffered multiple blunt force injuries to his head and body and multiple stab wounds to his back.
