WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Restorations to the Kell House Museum’s front porch are again underway after staff and construction crews took a short break to host holiday events.

Crews continued to prepare the porch for the removal of the wooden columns starting on Monday. They said the columns will be temporarily be replaced with metal beams while new columns are being built.

“It’s a little bit scary. It’s interesting, you just don’t know what you’ll find behind all that woodwork. So it’s been a really neat and exciting process,” said Nadine McKown, site director of the Kell House Museum.

Staff members said while funds raised from holiday programs weren’t enough to help pay for the million-dollar porch project, they will help pay for winter electricity bills and annual insurance on the home.

The new porch and columns should be done just in time for the Kell House’s Fourth of July parade.
