WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - News Channel 6 is continuing our Texas primary election coverage on Tuesday with a closer look at the race for district clerk in Wichita County.

Incumbent Patti Flores has been working in the Wichita County District Clerk’s office for the past 41 years, and is currently seeking a fourth term. Her opponent, Leslee Mannon, believes her 13 years of experience with the Wichita County sheriff bond management office gives her the opportunity to bring in a new perspective.

“I have the desire to make positive changes in Wichita County,” Mannon said. “There’s a lot of areas of improvement in that office.”

“I have done every single job in that office,” Flores said. “I am knowledgeable about what needs to be done experienced in it.”

Mannon’s career in the bond management office has allowed her to oversee the many criminal cases that go through the district clerk’s office. If elected, she hopes to better utilize the county software system and work on decreasing some of the county’s debt.

“We have a outside collection agency that can collect some of that debt to assist when the clerks aren’t getting a response,” Mannon said. “That’s not being utilized. They’re also not issuing any warrants for any of those outside debts.”

Flores said getting this software where it needs to be will be a top priority for her as well if she is reelected.

“The grand jury indictments could run a lot smoother with our old system,” Flores said. “We were done in a day with everything with our old system. Now it’s more information you have to input.”

Lastly, each candidate talked about voters should choose them when they head to the polls.

“I’ve got the drive,” Mannon said. “I’ve got the motivation to do a lot of amazing things in that office and to get it back on track.”

“I am still very passionate about my job and about the district’s clerk office,” Flores said.
