Southside Youth Senter receives 500 new books from donation
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - United Supermarkets and Kellogg’s teamed up Wednesday to donate 500 brand new books to the Southside Youth Senter.
The books will benefit the children and youth who attend the Senter for after-school, holiday and summer programs.
“With 500 different books, it expands the opportunities for children to explore and widen their imaginations to over 500 different universes and different ways to think about things, so this really has been wonderful for our students,” Tyler Preston, Southside Youth Senter program director, said.
United Supermarkets and Kellogg’s officials said they frequently team up to provide support to organizations and nonprofits in the communities they serve.
“As soon as I told our kids we had new books they were like ‘wait what’ because kids get bored, and they were pretty bored with the old books that we still have, but they’re excited to be able to read through all these books,” Preston said.
Southside Youth Senter said their mission is to provide a safe, supervised setting where youth and children can develop character and social skills in an educational and fun environment.
“Some of them I heard yesterday were already challenging each other like ‘I bet I can read more books faster than you’ and things like that so it really is going to be wonderful for our children,” Preston said.
