Several Wichita Falls Police officers and a K-9 unit with the Organized Crime Division were at 1621 22nd street Friday morning.
A neighbor said, "They were searching around the whole house the back yard, inside."
Police arrested Jose Antonio Ruiz and charged him with possession of a controlled substance and manufacture & delivery of a controlled substance. Both charges carry felony time. A neighbor said she was not surprised to see police at the home.
"At night, no one stays there but you can see that they're doing something. It's always fishy. Everyone's always like around the block looking at them like what are you doing?"
Police also served Ruiz with 4 outstanding warrants for manufacture & delivery of heroin.
Adrian Jacob Mendoza lives just up the street from Ruiz's home. He said, "Really I don't hear about it I just see it happening around the neighborhoods. Like I said, I see cars coming through here all the time. I see cars stopping at the houses and they don't stay for a long period of time."
In total, police seized:
- $1,001 cash
- 14 grams of heroin
- 4 ounces of marijuana
- .2 grams of meth
- Scales, packaging and surveillance equipment.
Mendoza said he's happy to have the drugs off his street. "We do have kids riding bikes through here, my brother with his friends. The people across the street and these people next door they have their kids riding other bikes and playing in the street. Stuff like that is not safe for the kids and it's not safe for the environment in the neighborhood."
Another neighbor said, "It's very dangerous for our neighborhood knowing that there's drug dealers when there's kids playing in the street every day."
Wichita Falls Police told Newschannel 6 that nobody was available to comment on the arrest.
