Katrena Mitchell wants to see more animals adopted from the Wichita Falls Animal Service Center she helps administer. On Saturday the WFASC hosted Barktoberfest and joined many other pet adoption groups to help spread awareness about finding these animals new homes.

"That is the best thing out of the day is that these people are taking time out to come they are choosing to come here instead of all the other things that are going on today they are choosing to come here and look at adoption," said Mitchell.

Mitchell said that a few families were able to adopt on Saturday. There were multiple other groups at the event. All were animal based some were aimed at training newly adopted animals, others had a focus on helping at risk teens. PAWS For Greatness is aimed at helping youth connect with animals who need homes.

"They take the dogs and put them through obedience courses. Along the way they learn all types of life lessons about understanding, about patience, and then the dogs go through obedience class. It makes them a lot more adaptable," said Corey Break of PAWS For Greatness.
