HPT: Old Post Office Museum delivers history to community

Graham Post Office

GRAHAM, Tx (RNN Texoma) - Located center square in Graham stands the Old Post Office Museum.

It was built in 1936 as the first permanent post office in the city, and people would come in to pick up and send off mail.

In 1993 the post office closed and would stay that way until 2002 when it reopened as a museum.

"It is so fun to watch people come in and have memories of when it looked like," said Lynsey Browning, Director of the museum. "It is fun to learn from the people that come in to learn."

The museum wants to hold on to the history keeping the original hardwood floors and replacing the old letterboxes with a display case.

The staff there also added a memory wall filled with pictures from Young County dating back 200 years.

"Growing up and learning about how the world used to be is so important especially our community," said Browning. "The history made our community what it is."

The museum has also added an art gallery that features artists both local and internationally known.

Adding this has drawn in more people to see what the museum has to offer.

"Getting to meet the community and see how this building has played a part in their lives is exciting," said Browning.

Browning wants more people to come into the museum and experience the city she has grown to love.

"It is just a warm place to come and learn the history of Graham, enjoy great art filled with education, culture, and people that just want to love on them," said Browning.

There will also be a national art show taking part of the museum that will run from June 22 to July 31.
