Man charged following overnight disturbance on Fillmore and Avenue E

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - A man has been charged following a disturbance on Fillmore and Avenue E on Monday night.

Police were called to the scene near Zundy Elementary School around 8 p.m. Officers surrounded a home and several blocks in the neighborhood were closed off.

Residents were encouraged to stay inside their homes as officers assessed the situation.

A man ran out of the home with a leg injury and told officers a man inside fired a rifle inside the home several times.

Officers said no one was hit and the victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The SWAT team deployed a chemical agent to the home around 11 p.m. Around midnight Joe Franklin Williams, Jr., 52, was taken into custody.

Williams has been charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit other Felony, Aggravated Assault.

Officials said they believe Williams and the victim know each other. Williams remained in the Wichita County Jail on a $30,000 bond on Tuesday.
