BURKBURNETT, Tx (RNN Texoma) - With temperatures at dangerous highs for the next several days, many people escape the heat by going inside, but not everyone has that luxury.
"On a very busy day, we might see 15 or 16 individuals," said Sandra Mays, a volunteer at Grace Ministries.
The non-profit that serves people in Burkburnett and parts of Oklahoma who are down on their luck.
"It makes you feel good to do things for people," said Wanda Pierce, a volunteer.
They say more people are coming in with little or no air conditioning.
In the past, there were not many ways they could help, until now.
Members of Yellow Rose Sertoma are teaming up with Grace Ministries to donate fans.
"We take for granted that when we walk into our homes it's going to be cool," said Gretchen Nielsen a member of the organization. "If it is not, we all have the ability to call somebody and fix it."
The first round of donations was gone in minutes.
"I went back to the group and said 'you know they were gone already,'" said Dee Dee Harris, President of Yellow Rose Sertoma. "They said 'well, let's donate some more.'"
With the help of local businesses, they have been able to make another donation of box and desk fans.
"One home only had two window units and one went out," said Mays. "One of the larger fans they donated was perfect."
Now, Grace Ministries needs your help again, because there are only three fans left.
"There is still a need and we just want to see who else we can shakedown," said Harris.
If you want to drop off a fan or a monetary donation to help the cause, you can do that by visiting Grace Ministries at 215 E 3rd street in Burkburnett Monday through Wednesday or by calling 940-569-3388.
