WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - The Wichita Christian Lady Stars made it to the TAPPS state final four last season before losing to NCTA. Coming into 2018
the Lady Stars lost some key pieces from last year but they expect to pick up where they left off.
"First of all I don't really want to start over like you kind of have to do every year," Lady Stars head coach Kallye Johnson said. "I kind of just want to pick up where we left off at the end of last year. So my expectations is to come out strong and kind of start where we finished last
"I strongly believe that we can go really far we have some good freshman coming up," explained sophomore Maddison Harris. "And continuing with some of the players from last year. I believe that we can go far again this year."
The Lady Stars will have to rely on a younger group this season lead by sophomore Maddison Harris. She says she is ready to
step into that leadership role after being on the team last year.
"We need to work as a team, and being a sophomore this year I can help the freshman coming up," Harris said. "I'll be their mentor and be
a leader to them."
"Its just going to be a completely different year," said Johnson. "We lost our four year setter and one of our middle blockers that were a
big part of our team. And so its just going to be a rebuilding trying to put together a new team almost completely. We've
got some really good pieces though returning and some up and coming freshman that I think are going to play big roles for
The Lady Stars hope they can build off the success they had last season and make another deep run in the playoffs.
"I just think the biggest thing is now the girls know that they can do it," Johnson said. "That they have the talent and the ability to get
there. They kind of just proved a lot to themselves last year. And just knowing that they have the capabilities to beat some
teams that they didn't think they could."
