VERNON, TX (KAUZ) - Engines were heard across Vernon for Summer's Last Blast. The events kicked off Friday with several car shows across the city.
The Vernon Auto Group just opened their doors this summer. Friday at three they hosted their first car show.
Tracy Ryan was there with a few of his cars. One of them was a 1970 Dodge Super Beat Pro Street with a 540 engine with an 871 blower. He has had it since he was 15 years old.
Ryan was one of the founders of cruise night.
"It brings in a lot of people. It brings in families. It gives everybody a chance to sit and visit and spend time with each other and see the American muscle cars running up and down Wilbarger street. This is 29 years this has been going on so it's a pretty big event for everybody in this town," Ryan said.
The fun continues tomorrow ending with the nostalgic cruise night..
The rolling car show takes off on Wilbarger St. at 7 p.m.
The Vernon Street Machines and Classics Association started the event in 1989 to promote preservation and restoration of antiques. It wasn't officially called Summer's last blast until 1991.
