WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Texoma pet rescues are asking for your help.
A number of shelters are full because animals are not being adopted.
The rescues hope Saturday will change that with a national adoption day. Kimber Hopkins is the founder of Emily's Rescue in Wichita Falls.
She said some of their dogs have been with them for a long time and right now there is no room.
"We have 10 out there right now that were returned usually for nothing they have done," said Hopkins. "I have seen some that have been here for two to three years and this is their life."
That is the case with a lot of shelters in Texoma. On Saturday, the shelters hope to fix the overflow issue with the Clear the Shelters event.
The day is dedicated to adopting out dogs and cats to families nationwide. Emily's Rescue took part last year and adopted out dogs that had been with them for years.
Hopkins' best memory is finding a home for a dog that came to them abused and sick.
"The owner took her home for a few days to see how it was going to work out fell in love with her and she is the most beloved dog," said Hopkins
Hopkins said seeing a dog or cat ride away with a new family, makes her job all worth it.
"When we get one that has been out here a couple of years that finally gets adopted that get their forever home that is the payoff," said Hopkins.
