WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - One nonprofit in Wichita Falls is encouraging a group of women to invest 12 weeks of their life for their future.
On Monday, Faith Refuge kicked off another session of their Career Academy. A 12-week career and life skills training program that has helped many women since 2013.
Some like Jacklyn Moreno and Leah Patterson decided to take part in this course for their family.
"For my son," said Moreno "His dad went to jail when he was younger and with everything I went through, I needed to get back on track for him, so I can be the best mom."
"I just need to get my life back on track for my little sister and for myself," said Patterson.
Several like Charity Heath moved to Wichita Falls to sign up for this course and find more job opportunities.
"I figured a bigger town, more jobs, so here I am," said Heath.
The new Career Academy director, LeeAnn Faulkner hopes her students will gain the skills they need to start fresh once they graduate.
"My goal is for all of these ladies that are in our program to graduate from this and have a new life and new skills
and be that much closer to their dreams," said Faulkner.
In partnership with Region 9, the program is designed to teach students computer skills, how to manage their money,
and even prepare them for a job interview.
This includes students writing their resume by using the computer lab Region 9 provided.
"It also brought me new friendships and connections with many of the ladies," said Heath.
Those with Faith Refuge hope by the end of this course all of them will have a job lined up.
"I really hope that each one of them, have the job skills they need and get out into the workforce," said Faulkner "That they are confident in their ability and are stronger."
The program provides textbooks for each student and lunch.
This group is expected to graduate in November and those interested in going to college will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships then.
The next course will kick off in January and those interested can pick up their application at Faith Refuge.
