Henrietta wrestling student going to district undefeated
HENRIETTA, Texas (KAUZ) - A student in Henrietta is going to her district wrestling tournament undefeated, and she’s looking to make it to state.
That student is Dalilah Coyle, and she wants to make it into professional fighting someday.
Dalilah is a girl with big goals, she wants to make her way into the UFC and even the Olympics. She recently finished the Red River Classic with a record of 13-0, and she even earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler award.
“I think about why am I doing it and all that, and I do it because I like to do it, and all the conditioning and stuff,” Dalilah said.
Dalilah began training in mixed martial arts three years ago with her younger sister as a form of self-defense, and now she’s obsessed with getting better and improving every day.
“Learning from my mistakes and learning how to finish new things. Like looking for better competition as I move up,” Dalilah said.
Over the past three years, Dalilah has found those around her supporting her goals and encouraging her to go after her dreams, and it’s inspiring the other students in Henrietta’s growing wrestling program.
“Dalilah’s a good leader and she helps out, I mean she’s the hardest working young lady that I know, and that kind of hard work influences the other girls, and they work just as hard. It’s fantastic to see us coming together and the support we get in this community,” Henrietta Junior High School Coach, Luke Shelby said.
Coach Shelby told me he has no doubt in his mind that Dalilah will make it into the professional world of mixed martial arts, and he can’t wait to see her hard work pay off.
“Yeah there’s no doubt in my mind, she can do whatever she puts her mind to. She has wonderful coaches her, especially at Amped, So it’ll be easy for her to do whatever she wants,” Coach Shelby said.
The district tournament will be happening Friday and Saturday at Vernon High School, News Channel 6 will be cheering Dalilah and the other students on as they compete for a shot at making it to state.
