WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Three passionate parents are hoping to bring their voices to the table as they run for a spot on the City View ISD Board of Trustees.

Each shared the goal of strengthening the district and ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed.

“Some of the kids, you know, they get to know you a little bit, and I think it just ignited that commitment even more. Once I got to know them, just to keep advocating the resources our staff and students need,” Incumbent City View ISD Board Vice President Deidre Hick said.

“You know, my daughter goes to City View, and it’s about her, it’s about all the kids first to serve our community the best I can,” City View ISD Board of Trustees Candidate Jeremaine Johnson said.

“I want to be a bridge that leads the community and the school together because our kids need that. So, when the community comes together and the teacher and the school and the parents come together, then the kids thrive,” Johnson said.

Hicks currently serves on the board. She said she wants to continue to hear from the community.

“Come to our meetings and keep giving us feedback and bringing us concerns, questions, all of it. So, I want to make sure our school stays that strong, positive influence in our community like they are today,” Hick said.

As this small district grows in academics, athletics, and mustang pride, the candidates promise to advocate for what students need to succeed in and out of the classroom.

“So, I’ll use my voice to advocate for the tools and resources that our staff and students need to keep that going,” Hick said.

Both raising their children as mustangs, they agree that serving a community that bleeds blue and white is truly priceless.

“I just want what’s best for our kids. You know, their safety, them having a good time, and them being successful academically, on the field, on the court, in the band, wherever they are at,” Johnson said.

“You feel welcomed when you walk into the school, there’s always someone with a smile on their face welcoming you, the teachers work really hard to make sure the students want to be there every day,” Hick said.

Attempts were made to contact the third candidate, Annie Jackson, for an interview; however, no response was received.

Election Day is Nov. 4; more election information can be found here.
