WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Wichita Falls ISD announced on Monday evening that Devon Dorris will be the newest athletic director for the district.

Dorris comes from Azle, where he spent 23 seasons with the Hornets football staff, the last 16 as the head coach. He was the longest-tenured coach in Azle history, had the most wins by a head coach (90), and lead the team to the most single-season wins ever with 11 in 2014.

“I look forward to meeting everyone,” Dorris said. “I want to build relationships with the people in this community, the coaching staff and the student-athletes. I’m ready to serve, and I can’t wait for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to starting tomorrow. I’m going to observe two boys’ basketball games at two different campuses and we’ll see where to go from there. I’m ready to jump in, roll my sleeves up and get to work.”

Coach Dorris was also a graduate of Azle High School, and attended Tarleton State University where he earned a Bachelor degree in 1999 and a Master of Education degree in 2004.

Dorris and his wife, Keri, have two sons: one is a coach at Godley and the other is a senior at Tarleton State University.

He becomes the seventh Athletic Director in WFISD history, following Grant Freeman from 2023-2025.
