High school soccer: playoff previews
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The Legacy and Burkburnett girls’ soccer teams will be facing teams in the bi-district playoffs on Friday, and their coaches weighed in on their mindsets headed into their matchups.
“I think we’ve been growing throughout the season. I think we are reaching our peak at the right time,” said Marcelina Campolino, head soccer coach for the Burkburnett girls’ soccer team. “I think we’re ready for it. I think our team is way better now than it was in the beginning of the season when we played against [Legacy]. I’m very confident that we’re gonna have a good game on Friday, and for sure we’re gonna compete with a chance to win.“
“They’ve been working hard,” said Carl Wiersema, head soccer coach for the Legacy girls’ soccer team. “They even came in over spring break, put in a couple days over spring break. They like each other, and that’s a huge strength in girls’ soccer. I thought we played a good game, and I like what we’re doing. You know, we’re together. And that’s a big thing.“
Both the Legacy and Burkburnett teams will be headed out to Amarillo for their first round games; Legacy will play Tascosa at noon at Dick Bivins Stadium, while Burkburnett will play Borger at 5 p.m. at Happy State Bank Stadium.
