Wayland Baptist receives national recognition for reducing textbook costs

PLAINVIEW, Texas (KAUZ) - A recent case study by VitalSource has highlighted Wayland Baptist University’s program for saving students more than $463,000 on textbooks and course materials in 2025.

This national recognition focuses on Wayland’s Pioneer Academic Access, the university’s affordable course materials program.

According to the case study, approximately 2,500 students participate in Pioneer Academic Access each semester, with more than 95 percent of course materials delivered digitally and an overall participation rate of 99 percent since the program launched in fall 2023.

Wayland Baptist said that the initiative simplifies textbook purchasing by providing required course materials through a single program rather than requiring students to purchase materials individually.

The case study noted that Pioneer Academic Access grew from Wayland’s earlier digital course materials program and was developed through collaboration among university leadership, faculty, and the Pioneer Store.
