Burkburnett celebrates Parks and Recreation Day
“I love seeing people smile.”
BURKBURNETT, Texas (KAUZ) - Communities across the country are celebrating Parks and Recreation Day, and Burkburnett is highlighting the importance of its local parks.
City officials said Burkburnett’s five parks are an important part of the community, bringing people together, creating memories and promoting physical well-being.
The parks feature walking trails, pickleball courts, fishing ponds, an amphitheater and a water park.
Parks Director Donna Moore said seeing people enjoy the parks is her favorite part of the job.
“I love seeing people smile. I love seeing them outdoors and utilizing the outdoor environment. I grew up outdoors. So I grew up fishing, I grew up hunting, I grew up just on the outdoors, and I think that it’s good for the soul. And I think that our people understand that here, and that’s why they utilize it as much as they do,” Moore said.
Moore said while Parks and Recreation Day is celebrated once a year, she feels appreciated by the community every day.
“I can say that we live in a great town because every day they are telling our guys that they do a great job, and they do. They do a great job. We have a great group of people that work for us in the Parks and Rec Department, and they take pride in what they do, and they are always getting recognition,” Moore said.
City leaders said they hope to continue improving the parks with additional exercise equipment, better accessibility and a new dog park.
Parks and Recreation officials also remind visitors to drink plenty of water during the summer heat and use playground equipment safely.
