Billboard campaign showcases student artwork
Ben Milam artists featured around town
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) -Young artists from Ben Milam Elementary are now in the spotlight, as their creative artwork can be seen all around Wichita Falls.
The “We Love Wichita Falls” campaign, presented by Union Square Credit Union is taking a moment to celebrate and uplift the talents of ten budding artists.
“We know that there’s a lot of great artists here at Ben Milam. And so, we really wanted to give them some exposure. And we thought, man, what a great way to put them on some of the billboards that we have around town,” Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Business at Union Square Credit Union, Simeon Hendrix said.
As part of WFISD’s Partners In Education program, Union Square Credit Union is actively engaging in activities that support its educational partners.
When the students at Ben Milam Elementary learned about this project, they rose to the occasion, creating meaningful art with a specific purpose.
For young Isaak, his project was a group effort.
“I made a cow with three of my friends, and his name was Hudson, Connor, and Axel. Why did you make the drawing of the longhorn? Because... Because they’re cool,” Ben Milam Elementary student, Isaak said.
As for Mia, her inspiration came from the local military.
“I drew military people, and, on the top, I said we love Wichita Falls because military people to us are important. When I draw in like color and paint and stuff it helps me calm down and not feel anymore stressed, “Ben Milam Elementary student, Mia said.
This project created a positive impact not just for the kids, but also for the school staff.
“It’s an honor to be able to do it. It’s the best job in the district, I think. It’s so fun to help out the community, help out the kids. I kind of get to act as a bridge between resources that the school district has and resources that the community has,” Ben Milam Elementary school Counselor, Jodi Camp said.
As for Simeon Hendrix, he believes this opportunity will have a lasting impact on the kids’ lives.
“Giving kids an opportunity is so important. Partnering with different organizations and communities, helping people out, it’s so important. So, it touches on many different facets that, man, it’s just cool. On top of everything else, I think it’s really fun, “Hendrix said.
Next time you’re out for a bite to eat or looking to do a bit of sightseeing, consider taking a detour to check out some of the local artwork.
