WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The Wichita Falls Fire Department alongside the North Texas Regional Advisory Council (NTRAC,) and the United Regional Health Care System (URHCS) worked together in 2024 through the Fall Prevention Project.

The initiative was organized to help decrease the severity and frequency of falling incidents in the area.

The WFFD said through the first year of the project, they saw a 10% decrease in the number of calls they were sent to.

The Wichita Falls Fire Department said in the last three calendar years they were sent to 1,408 calls in 2022, 1,452 calls in 2023, and 1,311 in 2024.

The fire department said following a fall, the high cost of hospital care, prescriptions, and rehabilitation can leave residents with significant financial impacts.

The following are tips the initiative shares to help lower the number of falls in the area.
