WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The Southside Youth Senter has been a staple in Wichita Falls for decades. Now, the center is gearing up for an open house next week, along with a big check presentation to help fund its programs.

At the Senter, childcare goes far beyond just offering a safe space. Staff are tapping into young minds early, introducing STEM concepts while kids are in their care.

“We are a STEM-based center, that is one of the major transitions that we’re making now. We have science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, we have music,” Southside Youth Senter executive director Tyler Preston said.

Preston said that’s what sets Southside Youth Senter apart.

Every activity in front of the kids is designed with purpose, teaching valuable lessons packed with fun.

The center welcomes kids from all backgrounds and offers more than just education; it’s a safe space families can rely on.

“Sometimes this is the only place that kids, that our students, are safe after school for a couple of hours. They may be at home, they may not have electricity, they may not have water, there may not be an adult there to watch, to make sure that they’re okay,“ Preston said.

Preston also thanked donors for their support, saying it’s what helps keep the center running, so staff can continue pouring into kids while offering affordable, essential care.

As the clock is ticking to the Southside Youth Senter Open House event on August 11th at 6 p.m. at 1205 Montgomery Street, Wichita Falls, TX 76302, Preston is asking parents out in the community to check them out or call the center for additional information.
