Wichita Falls places $1.25 million bid for former Kirby Middle School
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The City of Wichita Falls has placed a $1.2 million bid to purchase the former Kirby Middle School building. With that being the sole offer received, the Wichita Falls ISD school board approved the bid during a meeting today.
The city’s public information officer confirmed Wichita Falls is considering the property as the potential site for a future police station.
Superintendent Dr. Donny Lee said he’s heard the rumors about the proposed police station and believes it could be a strong fit for the location.
“So it’s in a good location. It needs a limited amount of renovation to it and so when you’re talking about building something from the ground up, that’s at a significant cost to the taxpayers. Whereas this is a good option where it helps us, it helps the district, and it helps the city. So yeah, we think that would be a good, a very good plan,” Lee said
Bethann Bell Oswald, a representative with Bishop Realtor Group, said the city appears to have several ideas for the site.
“We were able to schedule a showing with city officials there to look at the property, and they were able to discuss some ideas, and all were very excited about it lots of good energy that morning during the tour,” Oswald said.
Dr. Lee also confirmed that proceeds from the sale will support future projects in the district.
“Generally speaking, what that money goes toward when we get funds or proceeds from properties on to the next property. Our next big project is McNeil, and so that’s going to be about a $15 million project. So any proceeds will greatly help us pay for that project as well,” Lee said
City officials said they expect to know more about their plans and the timeline to complete the purchase within the next 90 days.
