AAA Texas urges extra safety during Halloween holiday festivities

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - With the Halloween season approaching, AAA Texas is reminding drivers and pedestrians to use extra caution to avoid common hazards found during this holiday season.

AAA Texas shared tips for drivers and pedestrians to help stay safe:

Drivers

• Avoid shortcuts through neighborhoods
• Be extra cautious of trick-or-treaters or other children
• Slow your speed by around 10 mph when near residential areas
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Pedestrians

• Stick together when walking near a road
• Remember to stay on sidewalks, use crosswalks, and stop at driveways
• Be aware of costume hazards, such as low-visibility or anything that could cause tripping.
  • AAA Texas also recommends using face paint rather than a mask
• Carry a flashlight, but never shine a light in the direction of an oncoming driver
