WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The Dillard College of Business Administration at Midwestern State University (MSU) recently gave participants a glimpse into the world of AI and future tech by hosting the Red River Tech Conference.

America’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at MSU said that this was its inaugural Red River Tech Conference, for which SBDC and United Regional Healthcare System partnered to bring industry experts to the area.

It was all focused on AI and cybersecurity in businesses, a field that organizers say changes quickly.

“We’re still learning, and we have a panel of experts here shortly, but for the small businessperson and the medical field, and just really all industries, it’s a matter of learning what AI can do for us. What’s important is always to remember is still the human behind the AI that needs to know what they’re doing and be trained,” Cullar said.

Cullar said while AI can help us in some ways, it can also not be factual, which is why it’s important to fact check.

Through the conference, attendees got an understanding of how to use the technology in a secure way.

“What we want them to walk away with always is a greater awareness of just diligence, and the due diligence if you have a business. If you have a computer at home, just being aware of the things to keep ourselves and our technology safe,” Cullar said.

During the conference, three presenters, four panelists, and a SATOP program representative took to the stage. The SATOP (Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program) offers assistance to small businesses through engineering consulting and product development.

Technical specialist at SATOP Lissa West said that they also help rural communities advance alongside technology.

“Folks may not have the proper resources to build their business or turn their idea into an actual product. We’re here to help fill that gap, take it from idea to production, and by offering that assistance, we enable small businesses to grow in your community, which stimulates the economy and creates new jobs for the area,” West said.
