Alpha Kappa Alpha Omicron Epsilon Omega promotes recycling ahead of Recycling Week
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Recycling might be easier than you think; from paper and metal cans at home to safely getting rid of old electronics, even e-waste can get a second life.
From Feb. 9 through Feb. 13, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated’s Omicron Epsilon Omega chapter is partnering with community resources to encourage Wichita Falls citizens to recycle.
“This includes recycling items like your waste, any type of cleaning supplies; even your technology items can be recycled,” chairman of the Enhance Our Environment committee Christal Johnson said.
For members of the chapter, the goal of Recycling Week is to get more people involved and start the year off with a positive habit that helps protect and improve the environment.
They said it doesn’t take much to make a difference.
Something as simple as sorting recyclable items into the correct bins may feel small, but those small steps can add up in a big way.
“It helps reduce the amount of waste going into landfills. It keeps our neighborhoods cleaner and protects our environment and natural resources. When we recycle, we also save energy and reduce pollution by cutting down on the need to produce new materials from scratch,“ chapter president Nefer Mc Intyre-Mason said.
She adds when an entire family commits to recycling consistently, it helps cut down on litter, supports a healthier community, and teaches children the importance of taking pride in where they live.
“You can look for the recycling bins around town at some of the grocery stores. Some of the apartment complexes around town have recycling bins on their properties, and you can drop off those cardboard, plastic, metal, and glass items,“ chapter secretary Renee Williams said.
