Reflective backplates to be installed on Wichita Falls city traffic signals
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The City of Wichita Falls is working with TxDOT to upgrade traffic lights around the city with retroreflective backplates, which make them easier to see.
According to TxDOT, the feature will create a controlled-contrast background behind each signal light with a surrounding yellow border to make the signals easier to see. They reportedly also help drivers to distinguish the signal from surrounding objects and draw attention to intersections after long stretches of roadway without any signals.
TxDOT is offering grant money to cities for the installation of these backplates, which are already in place on some Wichita Falls state roads.
TxDOT crews will begin working at the 10th and Broad intersection on February 17 and continue along Johnson Road, Call Field Road, and Maplewood Avenue for the rest of the week. Kemp Street signals will also receive this upgrade until March 14.
Expect lanes on these roads to be closed during the week, as crews will be using boom trucks. Drivers should allow extra time to get to their destination if using any of these roads and give workers plenty of space while construction is in progress.
