WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Inside the Clark Student Center at MSU, students, community members and News Channel 6’s Tucker Roberts all gathered at a town hall hosted by former congressman Beto O’Rourke, the founder of Powered by People.

The voter mobilization platform partners with volunteers and Democratic candidates who aim to bring more voters to the Texas polls, as well as learn more about the actions they can take when they’re able to cast their vote.

Kelly Shrubs was the first of many attendees to speak with O’Rourke. She believes town hall meetings like these are important to get residents involved in both local and national elections.

“Our power is not in changing the other side’s vote. It’s not going to happen. It’s in the undecided. It’s in the younger community. Super important, especially the local ones,” Shrubs said. “It’s important that we talk amongst each other. We’re not always going to agree, but there’s no way we can align on issues that are important to the community if we don’t talk and hear each other out.”

“I mean, every single one of them has bearing on our lives and our families and on the future of our communities,” said O’Rourke. “And so I think it’s really important that we pay attention, that we get involved, that we participate in conversations like the one that we’re having right now.”

O’Rourke said that conversations like the ones held tonight are going to shape the future voters of America.
