WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - According to AAA Texas, pump prices across Texas are expected to begin their seasonal increase as spring nears.

AAA Texas shared that this increase is in correlation to refineries preparing to transition to the more expensive to produce, summer-blend gasoline. Geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Iran were also listed as a red flag for price increases, as the tension could place pressure on crude oil prices, the primary ingredient in gasoline.

The lowest gas prices in the Wichita Falls area can be found here.

For now, AAA Texas said that drivers are benefiting from the lowest gas prices for this time of year since 2021, offering a window of savings before typical springtime increases take hold.

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.55 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, which is the same when compared to this day last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.93, which is one cent less than it was this day last week.

AAA Texas also shared that the switch to summer-blend gasoline is essential because it’s formulated to evaporate less in hot weather. While it’s more expensive to produce, it’s a cleaner-burning fuel required in warmer months to reduce smog.
