Drought intensity remains unchanged across many North Texas counties

WICHITA COUNTY, Texas (KAUZ) - The U.S. Drought Monitor has been updated for Wichita County.

As of Thursday, March 5, Wichita County remains in the “D1 Moderate Drought” category.

Many North Texas counties have remained in the “D2 Severe Drought” status for an extended period of time, such as Foard, Hardeman, and Wilbarger counties.

Southern Oklahoma counties are experiencing harsher drought conditions, with Stevens and Tillman counties having the driest conditions in our area, at "D3 Extreme Drought."

  • Jackson County, Oklahoma, was added to our list and is categorized as a "D2 Severe Drought" area.
  • Jefferson County, Oklahoma, was added to our list and was categorized as a "D2 Severe Drought" area.
  • Stevens County, Oklahoma, was added to our list and was categorized as a “D3 Extreme Drought” area.
  • Tillman County, Oklahoma, was added to our list and was categorized as a “D3 Extreme Drought” area.
