Stand Up To Cancer: Henrietta girl wins battle to Leukemia
HENRIETTA, Texas (KAUZ) - In Henrietta, a now 7-year-old girl, Kennedy Elenburg, and her family are taking a walk on the journey of hope after she was deemed cancer-free in 2023.
Four years ago, Kennedy was diagnosed with Leukemia at 3 years old, and the family said they depended on patience in the process.
Now, her mother said she’s grateful that her daughter has come this far.
“She is sassy pants, she is the boss of the house, she tells us how we’re going to do things and what we’re going to do. But she’s sweet and she’s mature for her age, it was like she had to grow up pretty fast,” Kennedy’s mother, Kendra Elenburg, said.
While she’s joyful that her daughter is nearing the end of her road to recovery, she said there are more challenges in the journey, but she’s resting on her faith in it all.
“There’s a lot of things like learning disabilities, Dyslexia, and stuff like that because it’s chemo getting pumped into their spinal cord, and it affects the brain. I mean, I would take that over going through cancer again,” Kendra said.
For the last two years, Kennedy has found new ventures like playing with slime, glitter, and even dribbling down the court.
Her mother said, for any parent worried as they are on the road to recovery, it starts with a positive mind.
