One dead, one arrested following early morning wreck in Iowa Park

IOWA PARK, Texas (KAUZ) - A 13-year-old boy was hit and killed while riding his bicycle early Saturday morning, April 18.

Iowa Park Police Chief Steve Davis said a call came in about a wreck on the 500 block of West Highway in Iowa Park around 4:22 a.m. on Saturday.

Davis told News Channel 6 that the boy was struck and killed by a white Chevrolet truck driven by Andrew Nicholas Tellez.

Iowa Park CISD posted on social media that the boy was a former student of the district. They also said counselors will be available on campus on Monday. The name of the victim is not being released at this time while authorities notify the next-of-kin.

Tellez was booked into the Wichita County jail under a charge of Intoxicated Manslaughter w/Vehicle.

According to his arrest affidavit, responding officers could smell alcohol on Tellez’s breath, and he told officers he had no recollection of how the wreck was caused or when he began driving.
