Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture honored veterans at the Art Walk

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - A display was set up at the after-hours art walk in downtown Wichita Falls to honor veterans and show appreciation for their service.

With Veterans Day being next week, the Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture took advantage of the art walk to host a salute to service event and shine a light on the community veterans who defended the country.

The executive director for the WFAC, Ann Arnold, said that they decided to fly their flags high for the military and veterans of the community.

“So I think it’s so important, especially with how important Shepherd is to our community with all the veterans who have come to Wichita Falls, fallen in love and stayed,” said Arnold. “We want to just salute them and honor those in our lives. And for us in Wichita Falls, we all know veterans. We all know somebody that has served. We’ve all been touched by that. So with Veterans Day just next week, we want to make sure that we give our salute to service to those who have served our country.”

Arnold also emphasized that they wanted to honor the veterans through their works of art.

United States Navy veteran, Chris Enriquez, said it is events and opportunities like this one that help bring awareness and shine a light on veterans.

“Just to know that they’re honoring veterans here in Wichita Falls the way that they should be honored. My grandfather served, my dad served, I served, and it’s just an honor for the veterans, all those that fight for our freedoms,” said Enriquez. “This is a day to celebrate for them and have respect for them and pay tribute to them.”

WFAC wants to make sure the culture, history, and people of the community feel recognized all in one, whereas this time of year makes way for events like these to give veterans the salute they deserve.

The Salute to Service also gave veterans a chance to come together and be recognized for their sacrifices, while highlighting the role art can play in bringing the community together.
